One Day Liquor Licenses

A One Day Liquor License is required to sell or serve alcohol at a temporary event

Documents required:

• Completed Special (One-Day) Liquor License Application (PDF)
• Copy of Liquor Liability Insurance for caterer or person responsible for serving alcoholic beverages
  • Must name Town of Hingham as additional insured
  • Minimum coverage of $1,000,000
  • Must match the event date and location
• Certificate(s) of server training (such as TIPS or ServSafe) for each person serving alcohol 
• Event and parking details (required for public events)
• Payment — $50 Application Fee (cash or check payable to Town of Hingham)

Completed applications, supporting documents and payment may be submitted to:

Applications should be submitted at least three weeks prior to the event to allow sufficient time for review and approval. Some events require additional review.

License Types

• All Alcoholic Beverages — available to non-profit organizations only 
• Wine & Malt Beverages — available to for-profit and non-profit organizations

When is a One Day Liquor License Required?

A One Day Liquor License is generally required if:

• Alcohol will be sold or served at a temporary event that does not have a permanent liquor license.
• Alcohol is included with admission, tickets, or other event fees.
• The event is held on Town property and alcohol will be served.
• The event is open to the public and alcohol will be served or sold.

If you are unsure whether your event requires a One-Day Liquor License, please contact the Select Board Office before your event.

Additional Information

• Events may require a police detail, as determined by the Hingham Police Department, at the applicant's expense.
• A site plan or additional event information may be required depending on the nature of the event.
• Per the ABCC, alcohol may not be purchased from a package store, it must be purchased by an authorized source approved by the ABCC listed on their website.
