Burn Permit Season Is Here

*Hingham General News and Announcements* Posted on January 14, 2026

Residents wishing to burn this year will be required to register for the season on the on-line program at Hingham-ma.gov/burnpermits or register at Central station and pay a seasonal fee of $5. We are able to accept payments on-line but activation of your permit will be delayed due to timing of payment and notification from Treasurers office.  Payments should be mailed to the Hingham Fire Department or brought to the Central fire station at 339 Main Street. A permit is not valid until payment is received.

Permit holders will have to go on-line to activate their permit each day they are requesting to burn. This approval is only good for that day. Each additional day you want to burn, you will have to go on-line and activate the permit.

When you go to the site, you will be able to see whether burning is allowed that day. Burning may not be allowed that day due to extreme fire conditions, high winds or health reasons. Our Shift Commanders will up-date the page every day based on the weather conditions forecast for the day and the DEP Health advisory. You will also be able to download a copy of the regulations governing outdoor burning on the webpage.

We hope this system makes it more convenient for persons who wish to burn, the Department and the Dispatch center as well as the fire engines investigating smoke in the area. In you have any questions please call Fire Administration at 781-741-1416.

Burning without a valid permit is illegal and can be subject to fines up to $500.00.

Burning season starts on January 15th and runs until May 1st.
