After a successful first year, Hingham is bringing back the Local Government Academy for Town residents who are interested in a hands-on learning experience about their government and its operations. Applications are now available for twenty residents to participate.
This nine-week course offers residents a unique, hands-on learning experience about their government and its operations. Led by Department Heads and key staff, Academy sessions will cover all aspects of the Town’s operations, including administration, public safety, culture and recreation, permitting, public works, education and governance.
This year’s program will take place over nine weeks, from September 25th through November 25th, usually on Tuesdays. Each session will run from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. The location of each session will vary depending on the topic for that week. Improvements based on feedback by last year’s inaugural class include more tours and hands-on activity, as well as shorter sessions to accommodate attendees' schedules.
There is no cost to apply and enroll. Class size will be limited to 20 residents. Selection for the Academy is by application and is open to Town residents 18 years of age and up who are willing to commit to the full nine-week course.
“We are excited to offer a new and improved Local Government Academy 2025. Our Department Heads are proud of what they do and are eager to share the town’s work with the community. Through the Academy, we offer residents another way to learn about – and connect with – their town government,” said Town Administrator Tom Mayo.
