Did you know that November 15th marks America Recycles Day? As we approach this date, Cleaner Greener Hingham presents tips to help your household recycle effectively.
- Know Your Local Guidelines: Familiarize yourself with what can and cannot be recycled at the Hingham Transfer Station by checking the website. Still unsure whether you can recycle that item? Check https://recyclesmartma.org/ Remember, when in doubt, throw it out! Placing non-recyclable items into the recycling bin can cause an entire load to be rejected.
- Clean Your Recyclables: Rinse containers to remove food residue; contaminated items can spoil entire batches of recyclables.
- Household Hazardous Waste: Household Hazardous Waste cannot be disposed of with regular household trash. Hingham residents are able to register for several Household Hazardous Waste collection events around the South Shore throughout the year. The next Household Hazardous Waste Day will be November 16 from 9am - 1pm in Hull. Registration required. Click here to sign up.
- Keep It Dry: Ensure items are dry; wet paper can’t be recycled effectively.
- Avoid Wishcycling: Don’t throw items in the recycling bin just because you hope they can be recycled—check first. Recycle Smart MA is a great resource. And remember – when in doubt, throw it out! Placing non-recyclable items into the recycling bin can cause an entire load to be rejected.
