The Hingham Historical Commission is pleased to announce Andrew Weissmann, former Assistant United States Attorney, renowned for prosecuting high profile organized crime cases, as speaker at the 2025 Virginia Tay Memorial Lecture Series on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Old Ship Meeting House, 90 Main Street, Hingham. Weissmann will be speaking on the rule of law in America.
Speaker Profile
Weissmann is currently a Professor of Practice at the New York University School of Law. He teaches courses in national security and criminal procedure. He has also taught criminal law and procedure at Fordham Law School and Brooklyn Law School. Hingham resident James B. Conroy, winner of the prestigious Lincoln Prize in 2017 for his book, Lincoln’s White House: The People’s House in Wartime, will moderate the discussion.
Highlights of Weissmann’s career include serving as a lead prosecutor in Robert S. Mueller’s Special Counsel’s Office from 2017-2019, and Deputy and then the Director of the Enron Task Force in Washington, D.C., where he supervised the prosecution of more than 30 individuals in connection with the company’s collapse.
He was also a federal prosecutor for 15 years in the storied Eastern District of New York, where he served as the Chief of the Criminal Division. He prosecuted numerous members of the Colombo, Gambino, and Genovese families, including the bosses of the Colombo and Genovese families
Weissmann is the co-host with Mary McCord of the popular podcast Main Justice which is the next era of their legal analysis that began with the podcast, Prosecuting Donald Trump. Weissmann also co-authored with Melissa Murray the New York Times best seller, The Trump Indictments: the History Charging Documents with Commentary. He serves on the board of Just Security and writes frequently for it. Weissmann is a frequent legal analyst for NBC/MSNBC and also writes for The New York Times, The Atlantic, & The Washington Post. His memoir about the Special Counsel investigation, Where Law Ends: Inside the Mueller Investigation, was a New York Times bestseller.
Weissmann holds a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University, and attended the University of Geneva on a Fulbright Fellowship.
Virginia Tay Memorial Lecture Series
The Virginia Tay Memorial Lecture series is co-sponsored by the Hingham Historical Commission and Tay’s sister Mary Anne Donaldson, along with the Town of Hingham. Virginia Tay was active in all facets of historic preservation in Hingham. She served on various historically oriented entities, including serving as Chair of the Hingham Historical Commission, President of the Hingham Historical Society, and Chair of the Hingham Historic Districts Commission. Before her passing, Tay was planning a speaker series that would serve as an educational vehicle for interested South Shore residents. When Donaldson moved to Hingham in 2021, she continued the legacy of her sister’s mission.
